On June 21, 1993, the space shuttle Endeavour began her 4th flight into space. The STS-57 mission, led by Commander Ronald Grabe carried the first spacehab module with 22 experiments tucked aboard. The mission also included the retrieval of the Eureca satellite after 10 months on orbit.

The first launch attempt was scrubbed due to bad weather at all three TAL sites and KSC. The next launch attempt was scheduled for 9:07 a.m. the next day and was held up only 22 seconds while an intruder aircraft violated the airspace around the launch area. The overall mission lasted 9 days and 23 hours with a landing back at the Kennedy Space Center.
